Arash Safaian was born 1981 in Teheran and grew up in Bayreuth.
His musical oeuvre encompasses numerous works for chamber-ensemble as well as orchestra, movie and opera. He received his basic musical education as a young protegee at the Meistersinger-conservatoire of Nuremberg.
He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts of Nuremberg with Prof. Peter Angermann and realised several painting-series, which were shown in solo- and groupexhibitions. For his early works he won the price of the Young-Art-Biennale of the states Bavaria and Saxony.
From 2005 he studied composition with Jan Müller-Wieland and filmmusic with Prof. Enjott Schneider at The University of Music and Performing Arts Munich.
In addition to his studies he intensified his artistic education with Pascal Dusapin.
He realised several multimedia-projects e.g. soundinstallation „Project Golghata“ at the Prinzregenten-Theater Munich as well as music for short- and feature movies. In 2010 he founded, together with Samy Moussa, „ensemble Index“ for contemporary Music and Arts. His first violin concerto premiered in 2009, followed by his first opera „At Stake“, that was commissioned by the 12. Munich Opera Biennale. He received other commissions by: Ensemble Musica Viva, Klangkonzepte Nuremberg, Zeit für Neue Musik Bayreuth, A-devangarde Festival Munich, Siemens-Arts-Program, Tage neuer Musik Bamberg.
He is awardee of the Reinl-prize of composition Vienna, the Günther-Bialas composition-competition and the eon cultural prize of Bavaria. He was awarded scholarships from the DAAD, Villa Concordia Bamberg and the city of Munich.
He lives and works in Berlin, Bamberg and Munich.
